BEATA PALYA & FRIENDS

Beata Palya-tampura, vocals, Andras Des-percussion, Balazs Szokolay-bagpipes, flute, saxophone, Miklos Lukacs-cymbal, Csaba Novak-bass

With her hypnotizing voice, Hungarian vocalist Beata Palya (1976) made a great impression on the Amsterdam Roots Festival last year. She leads one of the most popular groups in Hungary in which she fuses influences out of the Roma tradition, folk music from the Magyaren and classical singing from India and Persia. She wrote the soundtrack for the new film Transylvania by Tony Gatlif, director of award winning films about gypsy life, like Latcho Drom and Gadjo Dilo.
