AHMAD JAMAL
Ahmad Jamal-piano, James Cammack-bas, Idris Muhammad-drums
Het Bimhuis-debuut van een van de allergrootste pianisten uit de jazzgeschiedenis, Ahmad Jamal (1930). Miles Davis noemde hem ‘zijn inspiratiebron’. Over zijn laatste cd After Fajr (2005) schreef The New York Times: ‘Mr. Jamal likes to play gentle, perfumed melodies as single notes in the high register of the keyboard. But then he balances them with darker, authoritative ringing tones from the lower end; he drawls and withdraws almost to the point of disappearing, then returns like a bulldozer, playing in a jacked-up, dislocating style.’
