Steve Lehman wordt alom erkend als een belangrijke muzikale vernieuwer, ‘one of the transforming figures of early 21st century jazz’ (The Guardian). De altsaxofonist uit New York componeert verbluffende, caleidoscopische muziek, waarin structuren uit jazz, hiphop en elektronische muziek in elkaar overvloeien. Tijdens deze korte Europese tournee met zijn trio introduceert hij een aantal gloednieuwe composities en arrangementen.

‘Like a cutting-edge jazz orchestra remixing itself in real time’, zo omschreef Time Out het octet van Steve Lehman, waarmee hij zijn Europese debuut maakte in het Bimhuis. In zijn eigen muziek is hij even vooruitstrevend als zijn leermeesters Jackie McLean, Anthony Braxton en Alvin Lucier. Met zijn trio geeft hij bovendien een originele draai aan bestaande composities, zoals John Coltrane’s ‘A Moment’s Notice’ of de filmmuziek van Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
