Grant Stewart is een waardige opvolger van de reuzen van de tenorsax uit de jazzhistorie, een hedendaagse ‘tough tenor’ die jarenlang getipt werd als Rising Star in de Downbeat Critics polls en die nu favoriet is bij beroemde jazzmusici als Jimmy Cobb en Clark Terry. De van oorsprong Canadese musicus, die als 19-jarige naar New York verhuisde, heeft het volle, herkenbare geluid waar elke tenorsaxofonist naar op zoek is. Met zijn kwintet speelt hij de onverwoestbare standards alsof ze gisteren geschreven zijn.
