This year the Buma Boy Edgarprijs, the most prestigious Dutch award in the field of jazz and improvised music, has been granted to Martin Fondse. He will be presented with the award on this festive concert evening, which was curated by himself. According to the jury, the program reflects the versatility and connective power of Fondse’s music and personality.
Fondse has invited musicians that have inspired and educated him in the past 25 years, alongside great talents with whom he has worked as the artistic leader of the Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest. Plus one author. Special guest is Brazilian singer-songwriter Lenine, with whom Martin Fondse made the award-winning CD/DVD The Bridge.
The program consists of existing pieces and new compositions. It includes the premiere of the piece Hearts, from the new suite Card Games. In this, Fondse uses the card game as a metaphor for life. Each suit represents a unique character, personality and meaning, an is linked to a current social theme. Friendship and love are the central themes of Card Games: Hearts.
