With jazz musician Tijn Wybenga, founder of orchestra AM.OK, the BIMHUIS Production House will start a collaboration spanning several years, with the aim of giving an impulse to the new generation of jazz musicians in The Netherlands.
Tijn made the transition from jazz pianist and arranger to composer, conductor and artistic director. For his final exams at Conservatorium van Amsterdam he founded the orchestra AM.OK. The presentation of this new orchestra received great acclaim. As an arranger he has been approached to participate in projects by Nederlands Blazers Ensemble and Metropole Orkest. For these projects he arranged Syrian music, Georgian music, jazz, blues and house. As a composer he has been commissioned by Prinses Christina Concours, Grachtenfestival, Oranjewoud Festival and Oerol. At the end of July 2018 Tijn Wybenga received the Rogier van Otterloo Award from the Young Metropole – a prize for young, talented orchestra leaders who operate “in the fascinating area between light and classical music”.
‘I strive to create a new music collective’, says Tijn, ‘expose the enormous diversity in the young Dutch music world and to invest in its development.’
