Double bassist Camiel Jansen opens the new BIMHUIS season with the young ensemble Ikarai in a spectacular concert on boxing legend Muhammad Ali. As co-founder of Ikarai, together with pianist Julian Schneemann, Camiel plays and composes for the ensemble. Both players aim to close the gap that has developed between classical music and improvisation, between composer and performer. Camiel began playing classical piano at a very young age and studied jazz double bass in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. During his studies he discovered his affinity with composition, and began writing for all kinds of settings, classical as well as jazz.
