Ambient jazz by the adventurous string quartet Zapp4 in collaboration with Norwegian producer and electronica specialist Jan Bang.

The adventurous Dutch string quartet Zapp4 can really play complex jazz and pop music. The formation featuring Boy Edgar Prize winner Oene van Geel collaborates with Norwegian producer and electronica speicalist Jan Bang, who received much praise last year with his CD And Poppies From Kandahar. Together Zapp4 and Jan Bang will explore the boundaries of contemporary ambient jazz.

Zapp4 describes itself as a band with the line-up of a string quartet. It combines groove, improvisation and fantasy with passionate solos. Jan Bang is a Norwegian producer who samples and processes the live sounds made on stage. Sounds appear and fade away like voices from a distant past.

This performance is part of the November Music Day. Following November Music in Den Bosch – the most important international festival for contemporary music in The Netherlands – the best of the festival can be heard in Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and the Bimhuis. With contemporary music by contemporary makers and with ‘sounds that matter’ (de Volkskrant).

Before and after the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
