TORD GUSTAVSEN WITH SIMIN TANDER & JARLE VESPESTAD
- Starts
- 20:30
Norwegian jazz pianist and Afghan-German singer present songs from their
new ECM album What Was Said. Dutch premiere. ‘Simin Tander is a
miraculous singer’ (Het Parool).
Jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen interprets ancient Norwegian hymns on his new ECM album What Was Said, a collaboration with vocalist Simin Tander. The historic melodies have become standards for the Norwegian pianist and his band, who use subtle electronics to add depth to their performance.
Simin Tander is a unique presence in the European jazz landscape. The German-Afghan singer stands out for her tremendous variety of timbres and expressions, and for her free approach to language. She was taught by Sheila Jordan and has performed with, among others, Eric Vloeimans.
‘Simin Tander is a miraculous singer’ (het Parool).
‘Gustavsen’s tunes are hypnotically strong… masterpieces of the understated’ (The Guardian).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
