Theo Ceccaldi – Freaks

Six French super talents somersault through the colorful, tightly arranged avant-jazz of violin master Théo Ceccaldi. ‘Powerful violinist’ (Downbeat).

Oh mon dieu! Botox, Tchou Tchou, Coquette Rocket … these are some of the aptly named titles of the polymorphous music on the album Amanda Dakota by Théo Ceccaldi. The classically trained violinist is making waves in French jazz and improvised music. He has already been chosen as musician of the year by Jazz Magazine and he has collaborated with named performers such as Joëlle Léandre and Louis Sclavis. Amanda Dakota is his own creation, full of surprising twists and turns, hypnotizing riffs, weird lyrics and outlandish solos, tightly executed by his band Freaks. In this formation he plays with his equally talented brother Valentin Ceccaldi on cello. Their imaginative mix of styles already drew comparisons with Frank Zappa and King Crimson.

‘Twirls and rhythmic crossovers, flying solos. All played with a great rigor, fantasy and melodic lyricism’ (Le Monde).
