With the ‘groovy-blue songs’ of the album Blue, The Preacher Men will take you back in time to the smoky blues clubs in the Southern States. The album, which was recorded by legendary producer Al Schmitt (Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini), was voted one of the best albums of the past year by Jazzism & has recently won an Edison award in 2019. Now they will perform this music full of soul, funk and gospel live at the BIMHUIS.
The Preacher Men consists of three musicians sharing a passion for the Hammond trios of the 1950s and 60s, with players such as Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff and with albums on labels such as Blue Note and Verve. Saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo, the main composer of the group, also plays in The Ploctones and is the band leader of Amsterdam Funk Orchestra. Rob Mostert is internationally recognized as a Hammond connoisseur. Drummer Chris Strik is praised in Slagwerkkrant as ‘the most agile drummer in The Netherlands’.
‘This trio swirls with energy’ (JazzFlits).
