TAXIWARS
Saturday12 September 2015

Jazz, raw beats and dark vocals come together in TaxiWars, the band of dEUS singer Tom Barman and saxophonist Robin Verheyen. ‘Steaming songs’ (de Standaard).

Antwerp-based band dEUS thrived in the rock circuit, but from the start they were strongly influenced by jazz. Therefore it’s not a total surprise that dEUS-singer Tom Barman founded a jazz group: TaxiWars. Partner in crime and composer of the songs is saxophonist Robin Verheyen, who has made a name for himself in New York. ‘Short, concise and direct: TaxiWars is hardcore jazz with a punk approach’, says Barman, who traverses through the songs with a mixture of spoken word, rap, Serge Gainsbourg and more. ‘A compelling beat, a stinging saxophone, whispery sandpaper vocals with a dark, sensual touch’, is how Trouw characterizes TaxiWars, making them a perfect addition to the list of fresh Belgian crossover bands like Dans Dans, STUFF. and Nordmann.

‘TaxiWars sounds too good, too exciting to be put aside as just a side project’ (De Morgen).

‘Barman and Verheyen breathe new life into jazz and poetry with steaming songs’ (de Standaard).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM and serves a special BIMPOPMENU (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
