Tania Giannouli trio

Pianist crosses boundaries between east and west, accompanied by trumpet and Arabic lute.

Greek pianist Tania Giannouli has developed a unique, open style of playing. Although she is classically trained, improvisation is the essence of her original music. Since 2018 she forms a trio with Andreas Polyzogopoulos on trumpet and Kyriakos Tapakis on ud, the Arabic lute. The trio blends western and eastern influences in imaginative playing that ranges from introspective to uplifting.

In 2020 the trio released the album Fading Light. Prior to that, Tania Giannouli, has released three other collaborative albums: Forest Stories (2012), with Portuguese wind player Paulo Chagas; Transcendence (2015), with her five-piece ensemble; and Rewa (2018), with traditional Maori instrumentalist Rob Thorne.
