The band members of Talking Cows share a fascination with the musical witticisms of Thelonious Monk and Misha Mengelberg. Saxophone player Frans Vermeerssen, known for his warm and personal tenor sound, has played with Bik Bent Braam. Pianist Robert Jan Vermeulen has led the Amsterdam Jazz Quintet.
