ORCHESTRE PARTOUT

TABULA RASA 3 led by MODAR SALAMA & FELIX SCHLARMANN

Young musicians from all over the world immerse themselves in Arabic traditions and jazz rhythms.

Take a musical ride and let yourself get carried away by young musicians exploring rhythms from Arabic music and jazz. The international ensemble is led by Syrian percussion master Modar Salama, and by drummer Felix Schlarmann, who’s known from the jazz band BRUUT!

Together they develop new music through experimentation. Traditional Arabic percussion instruments such as riq and darbuka will be combined with jazz drums. The use of electronics and effects will place the music firmly in the present.

This concert is the result of two days of experimentation and research. Twenty young international musicians from Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Orchestre Partout will start with a tabula rasa, in other words a clean slate. Together they will strive for a new sound, appropriate for every individual voice in the ad hoc ensemble.

Tabula Rasa is a series of musical encounters between young musicians, led by inspiring musical masters. This concert series was initiated by Orchestre Partout, in collaboration with Amsterdam Roots, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and BIMHUIS.
