NEW DUTCH JAZZ

Susanne Alt: Royalty For Real

Saxophonist honors Roy Hargrove on her new album Royalty for Real.

Susanne Alt will perform with her internationally oriented jazz band on the occasion of her sixth album Royalty for Real. This one is dedicated to trumpeter Roy Hargrove, who passed away too soon. It was recorded with American top musicians in the EastSide Sound studios in New York. It’s a return to the acoustic jazz that Susanne Alt made her breakthrough with. Her passion for jazz started with players like Hargrove, who could express so much with just a few notes. Susanne regularly played with him at jam sessions all around the world.

Susanne Alt is a saxophonist, composer, DJ and producer who lives in Amsterdam. After an education in classical and jazz, she was one of the first musicians to play live with DJs in nightlife settings. She is acclaimed for her soulful, deep and funky sound, and she collaborated with the likes of Fred Wesley, DJ Spinna and DJ Maestro. She also released “Live at Bimhuis” with her own quartet in 2011. After many years with over a hundred performances annually, her schedule was suddenly empty during the pandemic. This led her to return to first love: acoustic jazz. During this period she wrote the compositions that formed the basis of Royalty for Real.
