Susana Baca

One of the great voices of Latin America.

In her homeland of Peru she was already hailed as a diva, but singer Susana Baca experienced her international breakthrough with the compilation album The Soul of Black Peru which was produced by David Byrne for his label Luaka Bop. Ever since then she has championed traditional Afro-Peruvian music, which is characterized by timeless, healing songs about love, loss and life.

Susana has been active in the music world for fifty years. She celebrates this with the album Palabres Urgentes, which she put together according to her own taste with songs that come truly from the heart. Producer Michael League, who’s known as the band leader of the successful jazz formation Snarky Puppy, provided fresh energy and clear acoustics. The album appeared on the Real World label, which was founded by Peter Gabriel.
