STEVEN KAMPERMAN TRIO WITH MICHEL GODARD & OENE VAN GEEL
Saturday13 February 2016

Adventurous new jazz inspired by early European folk music, featuring as special guests French tuba player Michel Godard and viola player Oene van Geel.

Clarinet player/composer Steven Kamperman and his trio are inspired by early European folk music in NeOropa: music with lyrical melodies, sonorous continuous tones and captivating rhythms. Their approach is adventurous and surprising, with influences of contemporary jazz and modern rythms, with a slight Mediterranean twist.

The trio welcomes two special guests. French tuba player is counted among the world’s best improvisers, but he’s also a phenomenon in period music because of his inimitable playing of the medieval serpent. Violinist Oene van Geel makes his viola sing and exchanges passionate solos with sharp percussion on cajon.

For years Steven Kamperman has been co-leader of groundbreaking world jazz formation Baraná. His current trio with vocalist Sanem Kalfa and guitarist/violinist George Dumitriu was met with great critical acclaim. ‘Music that is exciting, dreamy and emotionally charged at the same time’ (Caleidoscoop).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
