SOO CHO & JAVIER GIROTTO FEAT. SOO JIN LEE
Friday4 September 2015

Duo featuring classically trained jazz pianist and tango-influenced saxophonist. ‘Cho’s playing is crystal clear and warm at the same time. Javier Girotto is a marvelous storyteller’ (de Volkskrant).

Pianist Soo Cho tones down the muscular and acrobatic approach of many of her young male colleagues and still manages to reach intensity, much like her great example Keith Jarrett. The Korean born artist has been playing piano since a very young age. After she discovered jazz, she moved to The Netherlands to study and play in bands. Now she forms a duo with Javier Girotto, with whom she made the album Ballerina.

Italian saxophone player Javier Girotto mixes jazz with the tango of his native Argentina. He gained notoriety with his group Aires Tango and has played with most of Italy’s noted jazz musicians. He met pianist/composer Soo Cho, read her scores and immediately decided to collaborate: ‘This lady writes so beautiful!’

Special guest Soo Jin Lee plays the traditional Korean zither-like string instrument Gayageum, adding an extra dimension to Soo Cho’s compositions.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).

Afterwards DJ Beuk at the café
