Popular Hungarian folk band Söndörgő sheds new light on lost music from the Balkans. ‘One of Europe’s most versatile and exciting bands’ (Songlines).
The Hungarian formation Söndörgő conquers festivals throughout Europe with energetic Balkan music, mostly played on acoustic stringed instruments from the tamburitza family. The five musicians are fascinated by the Southern Slavic traditions of the Serbs and Croats settles along the river Danube. Söndörgő rediscovers this music and also draws from the repertory gathered by 20th century composers Béla Bartók en Tihamér Vujicsics. The most recent album Tamburocket made the best-of-the-year lists in leading magazines such as Songlines en fRoots.
‘Fast and furious, fingers flying with a fiery panache, Söndörgő are one of the most exciting bands in Europe. With their signature instrument, the tambura, the band brilliantly combines respect for tradition with a desire to innovate and a fizzing virtuosity’ (Songlines).
