Sanne Rambags uses her voice as an instrument, sometimes through lyrics and poetry and often as pure sound. For her new album she took inspiration from the art of Edvard Munch, who made an iconic painting with The Scream. Around 1902 the Norwegian artist made a selection from his oeuvre based on the different phases in his life. He named the series The Frieze of Life. With these paintings in mind, Sanne Rambags wrote an eponymous suite consisting of nine compositions.
The Frieze of Life encompasses titles such as Madonna, The Dance of Life and The Scream, borrowed from some of Munch’s most well-known works. The suite premiered at the festival November Music and was released as an album last fall. Sanne Rambags will perform this impressive work live on stage together with violinist Roosmarijn Tuenter, pianist Jeroen van Vliet and drummer Joost Lijbaart.
