ROBBERT SCHERPENISSE – SEARCHING FOR AI
Saturday18 April 2015

Young ensemble with brass and strings led by trumpeter Robbert Scherpenisse. With music inspired by Buddhism and martial arts, from the CD Searching for Ai.

Ai (合) is the Japanese character for harmony. Trumpeter Robbert Scherpenisse seeks harmony through the practice of Nichiren Buddhism and the Japanese martial arts form Aikido. It became the most important theme on his album Searching for Ai, for which he composed most of the material during a tour through a turbulent Ukraine. He arranged the music for an ensemble with brass and strings, featuring many renowned Dutch jazz musicians. They will join forces again for this live performance at the Bimhuis.

From a young age trumpeter Robbert Scherpenisse has been active in arranging large ensembles. At the age of 22 he founded the New Generation Big Band, arranging over 100 tunes for concert with, among others, Candy Dulfer, Benjamin Herman and Pete Philly & Perquisite. His current projects include Konrad Koselleck Big Band, Glenn Miller Orchestra en Windkracht 7.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
