PETER BEETS TRIO FEAT. GREG HUTCHINSON

Ode to the grandmaster of jazz piano Oscar Peterson by Dutch hardbop phenomenon Peter Beets. Drummer Greg Hutchinson has played with Oscar Peterson’s bassist Ray Brown for years.

On both sides of the pond Peter Beets is recognized as a phenomenal hard bop pianist. The Dutchman has performed with such greats as Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove, and in New York he has recorded CDs with established American sidemen. At the Bimhuis he honors his great idol Oscar Peterson (1920-2007), where he will be accompanied by Greg Hutchinson. This American drummer has played with Oscar Peterson’s bassist Ray Brown for years and has performed sold-out Bimhuis shows with Joshua Redman and John Scofield.

Peter Beets started playing concerts at a young age and has developed his own idiom with which he will approach Oscar Peterson’s music. His recent CD Portrait of Peterson captures all the characteristics of the legendary pianist/composer, from blues to modern and from calm to superfast.

‘Beets leaves nothing unsaid. He swings with authority, creates constantly, improvises as though he was born doing it’ (Jazzscene).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
