Or Bareket

Up-and-coming bassist from New York draws from his Israeli roots.

His flexible, melodic playing and his richly varied compositions already reveal some of his background: double bassist Or Bareket was born in Jerusalem, grew up in Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv and is currently part of the flourishing jazz scene of Brooklyn, New York. Like a true globetrotter, he connects influences from the Middle East, Latin America and North Africa to create new music. Sahar, the title of his recent album, refers to the moment just before dawn.

In his own band, Or Bareket is surrounded by promising young musicians. Saxophonist Godwin Louis already with legends like Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Gloria Estefan and Terenche Blanchard. Savannah Harris has already proven her drum qualities in the bands of jazz greats such as Geri Allen, Jason Moran, and Kenny Barron. Jeremy Corren is also playing piano with Joel Ross, who happens to have produced Sahar. Or Bareket’s third album Sahar was released by the established label Enja Records.
