Intimate and simultaneously challenging guitar duets by young master Julian Lage and indie jazz hero Nels Cline, who temporarily departs from his wild explorations in rock band Wilco.

These two jazz guitarists seem like polar opposites: Nels Cline, a veteran with a penchant for indie rock and noise, and the significantly younger Julian Lage, whose playing is more akin to folk and bluegrass. On their critically acclaimed album Room they’re like two peas in a pod, a duo that surprises with intimate beauty as well as challenging guitar duels.

Nels Cline is currently famous as the guitarist in American band Wilco. Before that he made name as a jazz guitarist who’ll never shy away from experiment. He collaborated with indie rock heroes Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Mike Watt (The Stooges), as well as with renowned jazz musicians such as Charlie Haden and Tim Berne.

Twenty-something Julian Lage is taking the world of jazz guitar by storm with his masterful playing, which is rooted in folk, country and classical music. He has played in The New Gary Burton Quartet alongside bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez and he has performed as a duo with pianist Fred Hersch and his great example on guitar, Jim Hall.
