These eight Congolese street musicians take you right into the bustling city life of Kinshasa, with their hypnotic, danceable mix of vocals, percussion and electric guitars.

The hypnotic, danceable songs of Mbongwana Star take you right into the heart and onto the streets of modern day Kinshasa. Traditional Congolese rumba and soukous come together with an irresistible urban groove full of funky electric guitars, exciting percussion and enchanting voices.

Mbongwana Star (‘star of change’) was founded by former members of Staff Benda Bilili, the Congolese group of street musicians who have dazzled the Bimhuis before. The group attracted attention because of their self-made instruments of tin and wire and because several of their members were handicapped. The new Mbongwana Star consists of eight members including four paraplegics, who are confined to wheelchairs. This year sees the release of their first album ‘1.000.000 c’est quoi?’
