MARY HALVORSON Amaryllis Sextet

Guitar innovator from New York presents her largest band to date.

Mary Halvorson is being recognized all around as an innovator of the jazz guitar. Consciously avoiding clichés, she creates her own style, in which she subtly distorts her semi-acoustic guitar with electronic effects. The American guitarist has performed on our stage in various formations. The largest so far is the Amaryllis Sextet, which bridges many jazz, experimental, new music and beyond. Mary Halvorson creates room to improvise, allowing her compositions to unfold differently every time.

Mary Halvorson recently released two albums simultaneously: Belladonna, on which she collaborates with a string quartet, and Amaryllis, for which she formed a sextet. Both albums were released on the Nonesuch label and were produced by John Dieterich, guitarist of the avant-rock band Deerhoof. The Amaryllis Sextet features trumpeter Adam O’Farrill and drummer Tomas Fujiwara, who have previously performed on our stage with Mary Halvorson in the band Code Girl.
