Maciej Obara’s melodies are permeated with Eastern-European melancholy. The Polish alto sax player is like a fish in water on ECM Records, the label known for its precision and excellence in production. He takes inspiration from both classical music and Roma culture.
On his recent album Three Crowns, the saxophonist plays original compositions as well as two compositions by Henryk Górecki. This is the first occasion on which the family of the modern classical composer has encouraged interpretations of the music by improvisers. Crucial for the band sound is pianist Dominik Wania, already a musical partner of Obara in the band of legendary trumpeter Tómasz Stanko. The band is completed with two Norwegian musicians: double bassist Ole Morten Vågan and drummer Gard Nilssen.
Please note: this concert is rescheduled from September 24, 2020. Previously bought tickets stay valid.
