Dubstep forms the starting point for the electronic music of British collective Darkstar, but is not exclusively aimed at the dance floor. The successful single Aidy’s Girl is a Computer, described by The Guardian as ‘heartbreakingly beautiful’, preceded the emotionally charged synth-pop on their debut album North. Singer James Buttery plays an important role on the new album, which was released on the authoritative Hyperdub label. ‘North will surprise many; a classic record for short days and long nights’ (Kode9). The concert continues with Dutch sound adventurer Machinefabriek, who in recent years has surprised quite a few with a steady stream of extremely varied releases and collaborative projects.
