Alto sax player Maarten Hogenhuis celebrates success with various young bands including power jazz formation Bruut! and The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble led by guitarist Reinier Baas. In his own bands he displays a fresh, unrestrained approach to swing and hardbop.

At the Bimhuis he will perform in two line-ups, as on his debut album 4/3. In his trio he plays with rising stars of Amsterdam jazz. In his quartet he plays with members of Benjamin Herman’s band. Original compositions are alternated with pieces by John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Hogenhuis is ‘a guy with a strikingly mature performance and headstrong ideas’ according to De Volkskrant, in a four star review last year.
