Lucia Cadotsch AKI

Remarkable songs by Berlin-based vocal wonder and her new band.

From ‘Ballad of the Drowned Girl’, the Brecht/Weill murder ballad dedicated to activist Rosa Luxemburg, to an original ode to the mythological figure of Medusa, singer Lucia Cadotsch selected songs with a female perspective for her recent album AKI.

AKI is also the name of the band that performs the songs. Alongside Lucia Cadotsch it features top players from British and Belgian jazz: pianist Jozef Dumoulin, double bassist Phil Donkin and drummer James Maddren. Swiss-born vocalist Lucia Cadotsch is being praised for her pure timbre and luxurious phrasing that imbues every lyric with warmth and emotional clarity. She previously performed here with the band Speak Low, which has received five star reviews in The Guardian and Downbeat. The album AKI was produced by one of her idols, star guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel.

‘The ease Lucia Cadotsch conveys with every note is hypnotizing’ (Downbeat).
