BIMHUIS TV LIVE BIMHUIS productions presents Close Distance

Reinier Baas’s Relief Party

Join the livestream! Performing live requires creativity in times of severe limitations. Discover new forms in the concert series CLOSE DISTANCE, led this time by imaginative guitarist Reinier Baas.

For musicians at the BIMHUIS, nothing beats the live concert, the ultimate opportunity to connect with the audience. But now this has been restricted, and nobody knows for how long. For the concert series CLOSE DISTANCE, the BIMHUIS has asked four artists to think about creating new connections with the world. This edition the answer comes from guitarist Reinier Baas: “A hopeful preview of a future where social promiscuity and physical closeness are possible again, and is celebrated exuberantly.”

Reinier Baas is not only known as a master guitarist, but also as the composer behind surprising projects such as the surrealistic opera Reinier Baas vs. Princess Discombobulatrix, for which he collaborated with soprano Nora Fischer and cartoonist Typex. Or the album Mokum in Hi-Fi, an ode to Amsterdam created together with saxophonist Ben van Gelder. Reinier was a guest soloist at the Metropole Orchestra, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, and the WDR Big Band, wrote symphonic work for the Pynarello orchestra, and is active in bands such as the punk jazz outfit Bughouse with Benjamin Herman, and his trio with Ben van Gelder and drummer Han Bennink..

This show is streamed live on BIMHUIS TV and can be followed on YouTube and Facebook. The concert series Close Distance has been made possible with the support of Ammodo.
