LILY’S DÉJÀ VU
Friday23 January 2015

Avant-jazz by an international band featuring saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, winner of the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation. ‘Music as captivating as a suspense movie’ (Jazzenzo).

Lily’s Déjà Vu makes music determined by dream logic: playful, free from clichés and full of contemporary influences. Last year saw the release of Music From Another Ass, the debut album of this band featuring seasoned musicians from Amsterdam and New York. Their innovative avant-jazz calls forth echoes of heavy rock as well as the supple swing of jazz and the sophistication of chamber music. Lily’s Déjà Vu defies expectation.

The band’s founders, guitarist Guillermo Celano and drummer Marcos Baggiani, have both been born in Buenos Aires and are currently making waves in Amsterdam. Electric bassist Jasper Stadhouders is known as the guitar player of Cactus Truck and many other Amsterdam bands. These three have composed the music for Lily’s Déjà Vu. New York-based saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, winner of the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2004, regularly performs at the Bimhuis with improvising musicians such as Tom Rainey and Mary Halvorson. She has also collaborated with, among others, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone and Siouxsie & The Banshees.

‘These four keep the tension going from beginning till end. Their music is as captivating as a suspense movie’ (Jazzenzo).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
