LEE KONITZ QUARTET
LEE KONITZ QUARTET
- Starts
- 20:30
Alto sax legend Lee Konitz became influential in the 1940s and played with Miles Davis. His characteristic controlled playing is showcased exceptionally well in his current band.
American alto saxophonist Lee Konith has been active in jazz for 65 years and he’s still praised for his controlled, mature playing. In the 1940s he was one of the few sax players to develop his own style independent from the captivating influence of Charlie Parker. He shone on Birth of the Cool by Miles Davis and many other albums, with countless musicians from the US as well as Europe. His characteristic playing is showcased exceptionally well in his current quartet.
‘Konitz, one of the most recorded leaders in jazz, particularly in the last few years, has seldom sounded as strong, comfortable and grounded’ (Jazz Times).
Last Sunday, composer and writer Gunther Schuller died. His son, drummer George Schuller, on tour with Lee Konitz, has to interrupt his tour for several days and will be replaced by John Engels in the Bimhuis.
