Julian Lage Trio ft. Jorge Roeder, Dave King

Celebrated New York guitarist sheds light on known and obscure American songs

On his album Love Hurts, Julian Lage reinterprets divergent American songs. Bittersweet ballads like Roy Orbinson’s Crying appear alongside film music by David Lynch and experimental jazz by Ornette Coleman. Lage’s unadorned guitar sound is complemented perfectly by double bassist Jorge Roeder, who played with John Zorn, and drummer Dave King (The Bad Plus).

At a young age Julian Lage gained recognition from well-known guitarists and jazz musicians (including Santana and Gary Burton) and became a protégé of Jim Hall, one of the most influential masters of the jazz guitar. Nowadays Julian himself is considered a leading guitarist, both in traditional country and jazz circles as in the avant-garde.
