Cuban heroes breathe new life into the Son Cubano, the authentic dance style. The group became known from their collaboration with Compay Segundo (Buena Vista Social Club).

Jóvenes Clásicos del Son is a Cuvan septet presenting a fresh, energetic version of the Son Cubao. This dance and music style goes back tot the 19th century, had its heyday in the 1930s and was rediscovered by Ry Cooder and his Buena Vista Social Club. By then Jóvenes Clásicos del Son were already known for their innovative approach on son and in particular the ‘son montuno’, a subgenre with much attention for dance and improvisation.

The line-up is authentic, with double bass, tres, guitar, trumpet, percussion and vocals. The group is unique because of its extravert, passionate style. Founder Ernesto Reyes Proenza, better known as Palma, found himself the best and most fanatic Cuban musicians. In their 20 years of existance, the group has collaborated with among others Oscar D’León, Rubén Blades en Compay Segundo.

‘Young son rebels’ (Straight No Chaser).
