Joel Ross has established himself in the American jazz top. Several times he has been voted best vibraphone player of the year in the Downbeat Critics Poll. On his recent album nublues, he mixes Bach with gospel and his own original compositions with gems by John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk. He combines the melancholy of blues and ballads with bright and shimmering playing on the instrument he has made his own, the vibraphone. nublues appeared on the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records.
Joel Ross made name at a young age in the Chicago jazz scene, and he currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. In recent years he played with an impressive number of bands. With big names such as Joshua Redman and Wynton Marsalis, but also with promising artists such as Marquis Hill and Immanuel Wilkins. On his own albums he reveals his qualities as a sophisticated composer and band leader, whether he deals with atmospheric sounds or grooves inspired by dance and hip-hop.
