Joe Lovano “Trio Tapestry” ft. Marilyn Crispell & Carmen Castaldi

Transparent and melodic playing by three American jazz veterans.

Trio Tapestry holds a special place within the extensive career of Joe Lovano. According to the famous saxophonist, his compositions for this trio include ‘some of the most intimate, personal music’ he’s recorded thus far. The band members offer each other plenty of space, as heard on their most recent album Our Daily Bread on ECM Records. Like on their two previous albums, Lovano’s engaging saxophone is a perfect match here for the free flowing playing of Marilyn Crispell on piano and Carmen Castaldi on drums.

Joe Lovano is one of the most appreciated and versatile tenor saxophonists of all time. Out of the many bands he played with on our stage, Trio Tapestry mostly resembles the trio with guitarist Bill Frisell and percussionist Paul Motian from the 1980s and 90s. With Marilyn Crispell he has played in several bands in New York with, among others, Paul Motian and Anthony Braxton. Lovano and Carmen Castaldi are childhood friends, who have both followed the Berklee School of Music in Boston.
