JEFF BALLARD FAIRGROUNDS
JEFF BALLARD FAIRGROUNDS
- Starts
- 20:30
Acoustic and electronic beats fuse together in the supergroup of drummer Jeff Ballard (Brad Mehldau), featuring Reid Anderson (The Bad Plus), Lionel Loueke en Kevin Hays.
Jeff Ballard, who’s Brad Mehldau’s drummer of choice and who plays in Fly, selected his new band from the absolute top of contemporary jazz. Still, Faigrounds sounds everything but predictable. A surprising contribution comes from Reid Anderson, mainly known as the bassist of The Bad Plus, who has left the double bass and has devoted himself to computer and controllers. His electronic sound fuses together with the inimitable drums of Ballard, ‘a melodicist and percussive colorist on the kit’ (Downbeat). At the Bimhuis they will perform with guitarist/vocalist Lionel Loueke (Herbie Hancock) en keyboard player Kevin Hays (Joe Henderson, John Scofield).
‘Jeff Ballard’s new band, Fairgrounds, makes the sound of between and among. It’s somewhere between a trio and a quintet; among free play and funk; between acoustic and electric; among flowing and limpid and fractured phrasing’ (New York Times).
