JAZZ ORCHESTRA OF THE CONCERTGEBOUW: ARRANGERS PROJECT

‘The best, most versatile and swingingest big band in The Netherlands’ (AD), the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, brings international top arrangers together with young and talented arrangers. Featuring guest conductor Michael Abene (WDR Big Band).

The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw presents the first edition of the Arrangers Project: for one week young talents of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam work on their arrangements with the help of an international top arranger. This culminates in a concert at the Bimhuis, by Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. The first set consists of pieces by the participants, followed by a set of arrangements by the guest arranger. He will also arrange a composition by an orchestra member especially for this concert.

Guest arranger and conductor of this first edition of the Arrangers Project is one of the most important big band leaders of the last ten years, Michael Abene. The Brooklyn-born pianist, composer and arranger worked with the big band of Maynard Ferguson when he was a young talent himself. From 2004 until 2014 he was the chief conductor of the internationally renowned WDR Big Band. In The Netherlands he has worked with the Metropole Orchestra and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, ‘the best, most versatile and swingingest big band in The Netherlands’ (AD).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
