Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw + Francien van Tuinen & Tineke Postma

Two leading ladies of Dutch jazz perform with ‘the best, most versatile and most swinging big band in The Netherlands’ (AD).

The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (JOC), ‘one of the crown jewels of Dutch music’ (Jazzenzo), welcomes two special guests who have proven themselves as excellent soloists and composers: singer Francien van Tuinen and saxophonist Tineke Postma.

Francien van Tuinen is considered one of the best singers in The Netherlands. Ever since she won the Dutch Jazz Vocalist Competition she has been working on a versatile oeuvre. Her album Countrified, for example, contains her original songs, but she has also dedicated an album to the ‘cool voice’ of Rita Reys and she has written lyrics to classical music for the album Muzyka. ‘She knows intonation and swing, and her light voice sounds pleasantly strong in all registers’ (de Volkskrant). ‘Her style of singing is characterized by her gutsy and forward thinking attitude’ (NRC).

Alto and soprano saxophonist Tineke Postma was discovered at an early stage by a couple of authoritative New York musicians, which led to collaborations with stars such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding. She reached great heights with her album Sonic Halo, a collaboration with her mentor, ‘Blue Note recording artist’ Greg Osby. ‘Exceptionally bright and melodic solos. Postma means what she plays’ (Volkskrant). ‘It’s been a treat to watch gifted Dutch saxophonist Tineke Postma mature over the past decade’ (Downbeat).
