Jason Moran solo

Solo performance by American jazz piano visionary, contemporary artist, and above all, master storyteller.

In our new series with renowned solo performers from the jazz world, we present Jason Moran. It has been years since the American piano master last performed here. At that time, he was the leading light of the new jazz generation, with an eye for developments in hip-hop and contemporary art. He emerged as a storyteller of black American history with celebrated multi-media projects dedicated to Thelonious Monk, Fats Waller, and recently, James Reese Europe. Now he will return for an intimate solo performance.

Pianist, composer and visual artist Jason Moran is seen as an absolute maverick of American jazz since he won the Downbeat Critics Polls in three categories in one year: Jazz Artist, Pianist, and Jazz Album. His Bandwagon Trio is universally acclaimed ‘one of the world’s best jazz groups’ (The Guardian). He recorded an impressive discography with albums on leading jazz labels such as Blue Note and ECM, under his own name and in collaboration with renowned artists such as Archie Shepp, Charles Lloyd, Milford Graves, Paul Motian, and soprano Alicia Hall Moran, his life partner.
