Idema/Serierse Quartet ft. Ben van Gelder

Some musical encounters feel like coming home. With their new album Serenade in Blue, guitarist Gijs Idema and vocalist Anna Serierse embark not only on a journey into the past, but also on a renewed artistic challenge. The duo returns to the repertoire that first brought them together: the Great American Songbook. Together with bassist Cas Jiskoot and drummer Tim Hennekes, they previously released two successful albums of original compositions: Motus (nominated for an Edison Award) and Cloud Studies.

These albums shaped their initial shared musical language. Now the quartet feels the need to reflect and explore how their sound has evolved. With innovative arrangements and a carefully curated selection, they give these classics a new depth—not just as a nostalgic tribute, but as a fresh and contemporary interpretation of timeless pieces. Special guest is alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder.
