In this double concert, we present young promising improvisers who will showcase new work. Clarinetist and composer Federico Calcagno is known as one of the most innovative musicians in the European jazz and improvised music scene. He has received prestigious awards such as the “Keep an Eye The Records 2023” and the “Premio Internazionale Giorgio Gaslini 2020”. With his latest album, “Mundus Inversus” (Habitable Records, 2024), he presents a contemporary jazz ensemble with eight international musicians. Inspired by the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch and the tarot archetype of the Hanged Man, the music ranges from delicate passages to intense outbursts, where melodies and harmonies come together in special ways.
The music of singer Vera Morais and saxophonist Hristo Goleminov emerges from the fusion of poetry and improvisation. Their debut album “Consider the Plums”, based on poems by William Carlos Williams, received international acclaim and was listed in the top 20 albums of 2022 by jazz.pt (Portugal). For their concert at our venue, they will bring new material – original lyrics and instrumental pieces – showing their development after three years of touring Europe.
