Greg Ward Rogue Parade

At once panoramic, angular and melodic, this Chicago-based ensemble is led by saxophonist Greg Ward, who previously collaborated with Mike Reed, Makaya McCraven, Lupe Fiasco, and others.

You can tell from Rogue Parade that Greg Ward has previously worked with musicians from hip-hop, electronica and post-rock, such as Lupe Fiasco, Prefuse 73 and Tortoise. Acoustic and electronic sonic worlds blend with striking drum and bass work in innovative music that can amaze and astonish, but that always centers around melody. Ward chose a unique line-up with his own alto sax in the frontline alongside two electric guitars.

As a prominent saxophonist from  the Chicago scene, Greg Ward has collaborated with many influential jazz musicians, including Linda Han May Oh, William Parker en Mike Reed. In 2016 he started his collaboration with GreenLeaf, the label of trumpet hero David Douglas, with an album dedicated to Mingus compositions, Touch My Beloved’s Thought. With Rogue Parade he recorded his second album for Greenleaf, Stomping Off Fom Greenwood, which gives room to his talent as a composer.

‘Greg Ward has emerged from the shadows with impressive fanfare. And his most recent release is an energized ode to the perils and joys of urbania: Stomping Off From Greenwood, an autobiographical account of a musician straddling the musical hotbeds of New York and Chicago. Stomping is everything a listener could ask for in a recording—and in a city. It’s the perfect musical storm of the systemic, the mechanical and the human, all invigorated by its population of five.’ (Downbeat).
