BIMHUIS, THE REST IS NOISE & VERENIGING VAN HOREN ZEGGEN PRESENT

Ghosted (Oren Ambarchi / Johan Berthling / Andreas Werliin)

Renowned trio explores electroacoustic jazz, with influences of minimalism, krautrock and ambient.

Ghosted was named after the eponymous album which featured sound artist Oren Ambarchi improvising with Swedish jazz musicians Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin. The result lies somewhere between 70s ECM jazz, and electronic minimalism. Rooted in the rich tonality and repeating figures of Johan Berthling’s acoustic and sometimes electric bass, these extended jams have been compared in the international press to Can’s krautrock, Glenn Branca’s walls of guitar and the ambient jazz of The Necks.

The sound of the Australian experimental musician Oren Ambarchi can be traced back to guitar and electronics, but it manifests itself in all kinds of ways. On the album Ghosted it can be compared to an organ sometimes, or a violin. Oren Ambarchi has worked with numerous kindred spirits, including John Zorn, Jim O’Rourke, and Keith Rowe. Johan Berthling has played on over a hundred albums. On our stage he has appeared with the supergroup Fire! Orchestra alongside drummer Andreas Werliin, who’s also an important figure in Scandinavian progressive jazz.

‘The trio showcases a carefully stripped-down, psych-jazz sound where the groove reigns supreme’ (Pitchfork).

This concert is organized in collaboration with The Rest is Noise and Vereniging van Horen Zeggen.
