Jazz vocalist Francien van Tuinen is ‘Countrified’: her catchy new songs reveal influences of folk and indie pop. Guitarist Jesse van Ruller plays a star role.

Even since Francien van Tuinen won the Dutch Jazz Vocalist Competition in 1997 she has worked on a versatile oeuvre. For example, she recorded the album Muzyka in 2005, with classical compositions arranged by guitarist Jesse van Ruller and with lyrics by Van Tuinen. Daytrippers from 2008 featured singular adaptations of standards from the Great American Songbook. 2011 saw the release of Cool Voice, Celebrating Rita Reys.

This year Francien presents a new album full of her own compositions, Countrified, with catchy songs that reveal influences of folk and indie pop. Jesse van Ruller once again plays an important part in Francien’s band. Bassist Jeroen Vierdag (Ploctones, Caro Emerald) joins in, as well as Martijn Vink, ‘the most inventive drummer of The Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant). Dutch newspaper NRC wrote about Francien van Tuinen: ‘Her vocal style is daring and she goes full steam ahead’.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
