Tradition tells us that the ‘cante jondo’(deep song) is the soul of the flamenco. Singers El Torta and Arcángel represent opposite sides of flamenco singing. El Torta (1953), ‘a man who never treads the beaten path’ (El Pais), embodies the canto puro with his raw voice. Personal struggles left him out of the public eye for years, but now he enjoys renewed success. Arcángel (1977), who is hailed by flamenco aficionados as ‘the new Enrique Morente’, innovates traditional repertoire with his classical voice and his surprising and subtle vocal techniques. Master guitarists Diego del Morao and Miguel Angel Cortès will accompany the singers.
