The music of Erik Truffaz always has a futuristic vibe, since he combines his controlled trumpet playing with contemporary beats and timbres. In this sense he is a kindred spirit of innovative trumpeters such as Miles Davis and Nils-Petter Molvaer. Truffaz embraced electronica, drum-‘n-bass, dub, hip-hop and Indian music on the many albums he recorded for the famous Blue Note label.
Lune Rouge, the new album by the Erik Truffaz Quartet, will be released in the fall of 2019. For this recording an important role was given to new drummer Arthur Hnatek. ‘We wanted new things for this album’, says Truffaz. ‘We have passed the baton to Arthur and asked him to compose the basic material on which the quartet can build a sound, putting together the pieces and picking them apart again.’ Erik Truffaz has collaborated in a similar way with well-known musicians such as Pierre Henry, Bugge Wesseltoft and Talvin Singh, but also with comic artist Enki Bilal.
