DUO KENNY WERNER / BERT VAN DEN BRINK
DUO KENNY WERNER / BERT VAN DEN BRINK
- Starts
- 20:30
Two masters of the jazz piano, a New Yorker and a Dutchman: both have performed with Toots Thielemans. Now they form an absolute top duo.
Last summer they played together at the farewell concert of Toots Thielemans and they hit it off immediately. Kenny Werner and Bert van den Brink are brilliant jazz pianists who have both performed with Toots Thielemans and now they form a duo. Alongside compositions by Toots they play improvisations, showcasing their mastery of jazz, swing and bop.
The New York pianist/composer Kenny Werner has been leading big bands since the age of eleven and he has an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz. Among those artists with which he has played are Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp and Mel Lewis. He has influenced countless musicians with his book Effortless Mastery, for which he became known as the guru of jazz education. ‘Perfection. 360 degrees of soul and science in one human being. My kind of musician’ (Quincy Jones).
Bert van den Brink was educated as a classical pianist and has improvised on piano and organ since he was very young. He has released several solo albums and has performed with national as well as international celebrities including jazz singers Dee Dee Bridgewater and Denise Jannah. As a teacher he educated Dutch pianists such as Jeroen van Vliet and Harmen Fraanje. ‘His work sounds truly original. Van den Brink’s great strength is his deep concentration’ (jury’s report Boy Edgar Prize).
